MGMA Statement 2026 CMS Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization for Drugs Proposed Rule (April 13, 2026)
Anders Gilberg
Senior Vice President, Government Affairs
Medical Group Management Association
“Physician practices face a daily deluge of insurance prior authorization requests, many of which involve prescription drugs. This newly proposed rule builds on the Administration's positive momentum to hold Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and other insurers accountable for abusive prior authorization tactics. MGMA is concerned with the potential for further expansion of prior authorization into traditional Medicare beyond CMMI's recent WISeR demonstration model. We will evaluate this proposal with these considerations in mind and look forward to responding during the comment period for the rule.”
